Kathryn Minshew began her career as a management consultant at McKinsey, one of the best consulting firms in the world. That start is one many people coming out of college or an MBA program envy. Then things got even more exciting: she began working for the Clinton Health Access Initiative, considered by many to be the most successful non-profit of the century. There, she worked on improving access to vaccines in Africa. No big deal.

Anyone would be fortunate to have continued down either of the first career paths Minshew tried. But, she was born with a different calling in her heart. In her words, “I think there are so many critically important problems out there to be solved (education, sustainability, employment in developing countries, energy, healthcare…) and I’d do whatever I could to help people working to solve those. But sometimes a problem reaches out and just grabs you — and becomes YOUR problem.”

The problem that reached out and grabbed Kathryn was helping people find their optimal career path. All of us have to make career decisions at some point, but it’s usually a process of trial and error.

The solution? The Muse, a site built to help you find amazing jobs, connect with career coaches, and advance your career. She launched The Muse with her co-founder, Alex Cavoulacos, in 2011 — and the rest is history.
