ROLE DESCRIPTION:
DBL is seek­ing a Part-Time Asso­ciate intern in the final year of their MBA or grad­u­ate degree, or oth­er­wise avail­able to work in a part time capac­i­ty, to work close­ly with senior invest­ment team mem­bers. The Part-Time Asso­ciate will receive sig­nif­i­cant deal eval­u­a­tion and exe­cu­tion respon­si­bil­i­ty, as well as hands-on men­tor­ship from the DBL team. DBL is seek­ing can­di­dates that are inter­est­ed in pur­su­ing a full-time Asso­ciate role with the firm post-grad­u­a­tion, and there is a path­way to a full-time role for can­di­dates who excel in the Part-Time Asso­ciate role.

Typ­i­cal respon­si­bil­i­ties of a Full-Time DBL Asso­ciate are list­ed below. The respon­si­bil­i­ties of the Part-Time Asso­ciate would include a sub­set of these respon­si­bil­i­ties dur­ing the school year:

  • Guid­ing, per­form­ing, and inte­grat­ing all aspects of dili­gence of poten­tial invest­ments, includ­ing: man­age­ment, mar­ket, prod­uct, com­pe­ti­tion, finan­cial, legal, and technology
  • Writ­ing mar­ket research reports, deal sum­maries and invest­ment memoranda
  • Help­ing to man­age DBL’s deal pipeline
  • Sup­port­ing senior DBL invest­ment pro­fes­sion­als with port­fo­lio com­pa­ny board work, includ­ing: cap­i­tal struc­tur­ing, strate­gic deci­sion mak­ing, oper­a­tional exe­cu­tion, financ­ings, new busi­ness devel­op­ment, recruit­ing and oth­er high val­ue add activities
  • Sup­port­ing port­fo­lio com­pa­nies in the exe­cu­tion of a dou­ble bot­tom line impact strat­e­gy — iden­ti­fy­ing new project oppor­tu­ni­ties, lead­ing new ini­tia­tives, and con­nect­ing with rel­e­vant stake­hold­ers in gov­ern­ment, reg­u­la­to­ry bod­ies, and eco­nom­ic devel­op­ment agencies
  • Sup­port­ing DBL’s senior part­ners in firm oper­a­tions, thought lead­er­ship, event prepa­ra­tion, and oth­er day-to-day activities
  • Assist­ing with the annu­al quan­ti­ta­tive and qual­i­ta­tive report­ing on the portfolio
  • Man­ag­ing and recruit­ing grad­u­ate-lev­el interns

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ide­al can­di­date will have:

  • A pas­sion for impact invest­ing, cli­mate tech­nol­o­gy, pol­i­cy and reg­u­la­to­ry processes
  • Strong inter­per­son­al skills and an abil­i­ty to fit into a small but diverse team
  • Proac­tive, and self-motivated
  • Ser­vice and detail ori­ent­ed, and enjoy sup­port­ing others
  • Sev­er­al years of work expe­ri­ence that trans­lates into under­stand­ing busi­ness mod­els, rel­e­vant tech­nolo­gies, or impact invest­ing. Ide­al­ly this is in a relat­ed field (VC/​PE, start­up, prod­uct man­age­ment, invest­ment bank­ing, cor­po­rate devel­op­ment, strat­e­gy con­sult­ing, etc.) with an empha­sis on sustainability
  • Excel­lent writ­ing and pre­sen­ta­tion cre­ation skills
  • Strong ana­lyt­i­cal skills
  • Intel­lec­tu­al curios­i­ty and appetite for rig­or­ous research
  • High lev­el of self-moti­va­tion, cre­ativ­i­ty, and com­fort with lack of structure
  • Final year of MBA or oth­er Master’s degree program
