While preventing fruit and vegetables from over-ripening too fast, Apeel Sciences itself is maturing rapidly.
Following their successful roll-out of avocados with longer shelf-life in U.S. stores, the company has well and truly left the starting block as it’s set to tackle the food waste problem globally and save billions in rotten produce from farm to plate.
Just at the retail level, the safe, natural technology, “using food to preserve food,” according to founder James Rogers, has proven to reduce food waste by more than half as it doubles and even triples the shelf life of perishable fruit and veg.
“With avocados alone, Apeel has seen a greater than 50% reduction in food waste at retail,” says Rogers. “Less waste and shopper satisfaction is leading to a significant spike in sales for retailers.”
