These Two Moms Unite To Transform The Way Americans Eat

Child­hood obe­si­ty in Amer­i­ca has sig­nif­i­cant­ly increased in the past 3 decades. Accord­ing to 2015–2016 reports by the Cen­ter For Dis­ease Con­trol And Pre­ven­tion 1 in 5 chil­dren between the ages 6 and 19 years old are obese, tripling the num­ber of obese chil­dren report­ed in the 1970s. This trend and its impact on learn­ing  inspired Kirsten Saenz Tobey and Kristin Groos Rich­mond to set out on a mis­sion to trans­form the way stu­dents are fed by start­ing Rev­o­lu­tion Foods.

Before found­ing Rev­o­lu­tion Foods, Rich­mond who pre­vi­ous­ly had a career in cor­po­rate finance had co-found­ed the Kenya Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­ter for Learn­ing. She also served on the White house Coun­cil for Com­mu­ni­ty Solu­tions.  Tobey  was a teacher, researcher and gar­den edu­ca­tor with Earth­jus­tice, the School for Field Stud­ies, and Phillips Acad­e­my at Andover. She had also led expe­ri­en­tial edu­ca­tion­al pro­grams in the US and Ecuador.
