Nan­cy Pfund is per­haps the most rec­og­niz­able ven­ture cap­i­tal­ist in the clean ener­gy space.

Before she raised mul­ti-hun­dred-mil­lion-dol­lar funds at her firm, DBL Part­ners, and made ear­ly invest­ments in the likes of Tes­la, SolarCi­ty, Off Grid Elec­tric, Pow­erLight, NEX­Track­er and Advanced Micro­grid Solu­tions, Pfund had to start somewhere.

In col­lege, I did­n’t know what a ven­ture cap­i­tal­ist was — I was an anthro­pol­o­gy major,” she said at the Jan­u­ary record­ing of Watt It Takes, the live pod­cast from GTM and Pow­er­house in which clean­tech founders tell their stories.
